All Indians who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada require a visa to enter Canada. The requirement for a Canada Visa also applies to temporary residents who are in transit through Canada.

An official document issued by the Embassy/Consulate General of Canada and placed in your passport to verify that you meet the conditions for entry into Canada as a temporary resident (either as a guest, student, or worker) is called a Canada Temporary Resident Visa. Upon arrival, an officer at the port of entry will determine whether you still fit the requirements for admission; a valid Temporary Resident Visa does not ensure entry into Canada. You might not be allowed entrance if your situation has changed between the time of your application and when you arrive in Canada, or if new information becomes available that the visa office was not aware of at first.

A visa to Canada can be obtained for transit, numerous entries, or a single entry. You are only permitted to enter Canada once with a single entry visa. Such entries must be made during the period that has been verified for your visit to Canada. (For example, you might be granted six months from the day of your port of entry into Canada.) With a multiple entry visa, you are permitted repeated entries into Canada from any nation while the visa is in effect.)

Those who seek a temporary residence visa and whose flight will stop in Canada for less than 48 hours must obtain a transit visa in order to travel via Canada to another nation. You must present certain proof of your trip plans in order to be granted a transit visa.

However, the Embassy has total discretion over that choice.You are only allowed to enter Canada once within the designated period if you have a single entry visa. Should your three-month temporary residence visa be granted and you opt to depart Canada within one month of arriving, you will not be permitted to re-enter the country with the same visa. You can enter Canada as often as you'd like for the life of your visa if you have a multiple entry visa. As a result, you can enter and exit Canada during the two months while you have a temporary resident visa without submitting a new application. As of February 6, 2014, every application for a visa is automatically evaluated for multiple entries.

Your passport will be stamped by a Canada Immigration official at the airport, along with a note confirming the maximum length of stay permitted. Typically, a Canada visa is valid for up to 10 years or until one month before the expiration of your passport, whichever comes first. You can stay in Canada for a maximum of six months during this time.

Like any other tourist to Canada, you will need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa if you are from a nation where entry to the country is restricted. Applying is similar to applying for a visitor's visa.
